Welcome to The Fire Law Team.
The Fire Law Team is powered by the attorneys of Fabian, Sklar, King & Liss, a Michigan based property insurance claims law firm, in existence for nearly 40 years and exclusively representing business and homeowners in first party property insurance claims. We are always on the side of policyholders against their insurance companies when carriers breach their contractual duty to business and homeowners. We know how devastating a structure fire to your home or business can be and we are here to help.
Located in Michigan, also licensed in Ohio and representing clients across the United States, our attorneys have recovered over $500 million for our clients and aggressively prepare property insurance claims pre-suit after fire, explosion, smoke, wind, flood and storm damage.
Attorneys, Public Adjusters, commercial building owners and victims of house fires from across the country rely on our advice to maximize their recovery pre-suit. If our aggressive pre-suit negotiations and preparations do not yield the settlement our clients are entitled to, we are then prepared to quickly move the claim into litigation and move the court proceedings along a faster pace, due to our extensive pre-suit preparation.
Whether you are a business owner, homeowner, the client’s Public Adjuster, insurance agent or personal attorney, we are here to consult with you and help get your fire damage and property insurance claim paid pre-suit if possible, but also prepare you for litigation.
We are licensed in Michigan and Ohio and our Managing Partner, Jason J. Liss, is regularly admitted Pro Hace Vice across the country to help our clients and their local experts best prepare their fire loss and property insurance claims.
Legal leverage that fuels pre-suit negotiation.
We use our decades of litigation experience to break the carrier’s stonewall—when you want court to be a last resort.
Litigation is expensive and time-consuming and many times our clients would rather get their life and business back without the need for a drawn out court case.
At The Fire Law Team, we prepare your commercial building or house fire property insurance claim for litigation with the goal of putting maximum pressure on the insurance company pre-suit.
Most of our Fire Law Team clients work on a contingency fee basis, which means we don’t get paid until your claim is paid. We work to strengthen complex claims by working with your Public Adjuster and/or we retain the experts needed to help prepare your property insurance claim. We handle coverage opinions, Examination Under Oath (EUO) preparation and policy interpretation—and prepare to litigate if the carrier still won’t pay.
The Fire Law Team is the firm’s pre-litigation strike team. Bottom line: our years of experience has taught us, the clients, referring attorneys and Public Adjusters who depend us that clients get paid faster, when the attorneys Fabian Sklar King & Liss are brought in early in the claims process.
“Many of our cases end up in litigation and if we are not satisfied with the result, we appeal. But due to the nature of the cases we handle, we recognized a need to be available much earlier in the claims process than a typical attorney might be due to the nature of property insurance claims law. Many attorneys, Public Adjusters and clients contact us from around the country to get involved early and in their out of state matters.
Call us early, get us involved pre-suit and we’ll prepare your case to maximize your chance of recovery.”
Questions and Answers for The Fire Law Team
Who are you and who do you represent?
We are the attorneys of the law firm of Fabian, Sklar, King & Liss, P.C. located in Michigan. Over our combined 150 years + of experience and over the 40 years our firm has been in existence, we have found that many homeowners, business owners, their attorneys, insurance agents and Public Adjusters often need help pre-suit in preparing their Property Insurance and Fire Loss Claims. Though we are trial and appellate attorneys specializing exclusively in fire and property insurance loss claims, we do find that our early involvement and consultation can help insureds avoid costly and time consuming litigation by hiring us early in the claims process to ensure that your claim is expertly prepared for litigation but in hopes of avoiding litigation due to our expert advice and preparation.
I know your attorneys are licensed in Michigan and Ohio but I live in another state, can you still help me?
Yes, absolutely. We are nationalized recognized due to our contributions in the area of property insurance claims litigation. Our Managing Partner, Jason J. Liss, is regularly brought in from referring local counsel to act as Pro Hace Vice counsel in your home state to insure your local attorney and Public Adjusters have the expert hands needed to get you the maximum recovery for your loss.
How are you paid?
Most of our clients work with us on a contingency fee basis. Because of the nature of property insurance claims, many of our clients have suffered a complete loss of their business entity, commercial building or home are often suffering a catastrophic financial potential loss. By acting working on a contingency fee, we not only take some of the financial stress off our clients, but we also are aligned with our clients in terms of financial incentives, maximizing recovery and keeping costs in line with maximum potential recovery. We also find that preparing billable hour invoices take valuable time away from our focus on preparing your claim and lawsuit.
I already have an attorney or a Public Adjuster, do I still need a specialized Property Insurance Claim Attorney?
Not always. The best course of action is to call us for a free consultation and we can best advise you whether we think we can make a difference. If we think you are well represented or do not representation at this time, we customarily will give you free counsel and advise when and if it may make sense to call us back in the future.
I am a Public Adjuster or personal attorney for my client, should I reach out to you on my client's behalf?
Absolutely. We look forward to networking with you and helping when we can. Oftentimes our advice is that you are fine without us, but we are always happy to strengthen a professional relationship and learn more about your and your clients and be there for you when we are needed.
Do you have experience with Hurricane Loss and Wildfire Litigation?
Yes, our Managing Partner, Jason J. Liss, is regularly consulted after disasters around the country.
Do you also consult on non-fire property insurance claims? I have property damage from a flood, derecho, hurricane or tornado, can you help?
Absolutely. Because of the catastrophic loss incurred by our clients after a fire loss, we do a lot of work after business, commercial and home fires. But we find more and more that our clients are coming to us after devastating hurricane force winds, tornado activity and just increasing catastrophic flooding. We work in all practice areas of catastrophic property insurance claims.
Will you take my claim to court if it cannot be settled pre-suit?
Yes, absolutely. We are first and foremost litigation attorneys. We also have an active appellate practice and have made insurance claim friendly law for the residents of the State of Michigan with our aggressive appellate advocacy. We added The Fire Law Team because we have learned through our decades of experience that our meticulous pre-litigation claims practice has allowed for some of our clients matters to be settled without the costly and timely need for full-blown litigation. We sometimes can avoid litigation for you by essentially litigating your claim pre-suit without the delays and slow pace often encountered in our overburden court systems.
