Officials at Fabian, Sklar & King, P.C., a Farmington Hills-based law firm, have donated some 3,000 smoke alarms to the Detroit Fire Department over the last six years.
The most recent donation came last week, when Stuart Sklar and other members of the firm made the presentation at Detroit Fire Department-Engine 27.
The firm made the donation in recognition of October being National Fire Prevention Month. Stuart Sklar and other representatives from Fabian, Sklar & King P.C. discussed fire prevention, safety tips for individuals and families, and the importance of having working smoke alarms present in homes and the firm’s ongoing initiative to supply those critical tools to residents of the City of Detroit.
“Smoke alarms are one of the best tools available to help keep individuals and families safe from the dangers of home fires,” said Sklar. “ We are proud to partner with the Detroit Fire Department to provide these valuable life-saving tools to city residents and have them installed in their homes—enhancing the level of safety and security for individuals and families across the city.”
According to statistics quoted by the firm, fires claim an average of nine lives every day in the United States, with 43 percent of those fires beginning from cooking equipment.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, the presence of working smoke alarms cuts the risk of dying in a home fire in half. These donated smoke alarms will be available to members of the Detroit community free of charge with installation help from the Detroit Fire Department.
