“Hear the Beep — Where you Sleep”
That’s the theme this year as a local law firm teams up with the Detroit Fire Department, to get working smoke detectors in the homes of Detroit residents.
For the sixth year in a row, Fabian, Sklar and King P.C., a law firm in Farmington Hills that represents victims of fires and explosions, donated 500 smoke detectors to DFD.
“(The) law firm represents victims of fires and explosions and we have seen for years the effect that fires have on families when there are no working smoke alarms present,” says attorney Stuart Sklar.
“Everyone needs to have a working smoke alarm in their home and the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week “Hear a Beep Where You Sleep,” meaning put smoke alarms in your bedrooms,” said Sklar.
The key message of this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, October 4-10, is to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement. Larger homes may need more alarms.
Over the course of six years, the law firm has donated 3,000 smoke alarms to DFD.
Sunday, November 1, Daylight Saving Time ends and we’ll be turning the clocks back an hour.
It’s a good time to change the battery in your smoke detectors.
