How our Michigan Insurance Claim Attorneys proudly give back
We are committed to justice — in and beyond the courtroom. At Fabian, Sklar, King & Liss, P.C., our Michigan Insurance Claim Attorneys believe that our work doesn’t end with a legal victory. We are proud to support the communities we serve – especially those affected by fires and explosions. Whether it is through hands-on public safety efforts or helping young burn survivors heal, we are committed to making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Advocating for Stronger Protections for Michigan Policyholders
On December 10, 2025, our co-founder Stuart Sklar appeared before the Michigan Senate Insurance Committee to testify in support of Senate Bill 245, legislation designed to hold insurance companies accountable when they engage in bad-faith claim practices.
Stuart explains: “This afternoon I testified before the Insurance Committee of the Michigan Senate in support of SB 245, that, if enacted, will hold insurance companies accountable when they handle claims in bad faith. Such bad faith conduct includes delaying payment of claims, underpaying claims and denying claims .
I was joined by my client Matt Randall who told his story about how his insurance company acted in bad faith on his claim when a fire destroyed his business.
Under current Michigan Law, individuals and business have no remedy for the harm caused when an insurance company acts in bad faith by wrongfully delaying payment, intentionally underpaying a claim or baselessly denying a claim. SB 245 fixes this void in the law.”
Stuart’s testimony highlighted a longstanding gap in Michigan law and underscored why SB 245 is critical for protecting policyholders across the state. Fabian Sklar King & Liss will continue to advocate for fair treatment, transparency, and accountability in the insurance industry—both in the courtroom and at the policy level.
Supporting Burn Survivors and Youth Healing
For more than a decade, our Michigan Insurance Claim Attorneys have proudly sponsored children between the ages of 7 and 17 to attend the Great Lakes Burn Camp,—a weeklong, confidence-building experience for young burn survivors. With activities like hiking, swimming and scuba diving, it is a place where kids can just be kids, supported by expert care and a strong sense of community.

Shaping Justice Through Advocacy and Appeals
At Fabian, Sklar, King & Liss, we don’t just represent policyholders—we help shape the laws that protect them.
Our attorneys have been deeply involved with the Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ), the state’s premier plaintiff-side advocacy organization. Founding partner Stuart Sklar served as MAJ President, and Stuart Sklar, Jason Liss and Elizabeth King have served on the Executive Board.
Jason Liss also is a former President of the Michigan Bar Insurance & Indemnity Section and currently services as a Hearing Panelist for the Attorney Grievance Commission. Our team contributes legal insight, legislative input, and dozens of amicus briefs in high-stakes appellate matters affecting Michigan policyholders and injury victims statewide, contributing to a more favorable climate for Michigan policyholders.
We’ve also established a strong appellate practice—litigating precedent-setting issues in the Michigan Court of Appeals, Michigan Supreme Court, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. These appellate victories don’t just help our clients—they help establish fairer legal standards for everyone facing a property loss or insurance dispute.
